Podcast Episode 33. Overcoming Addiction, Depression and a Family Not on Board with Nate Reo
Thankfully the impact of whole-foods, plant-based nutrition has on heart disease, diabetes and more is becoming more widely known and accepted.
But perhaps my favorite aspect and one that I hope will gain more attention is the impact it has on the brain.
This interview with Nate Reo is one of my very favorites, as he is so raw and real about the tremendous challenges he faced in both what led him to whole-food, plant-based nutrition as well as the bumpy road to his now personal commitment to be a whole-foods vegan.
The dramatic improvement his brain has experienced is incredible, as both the depression, inability to focus on even simple tasks have largely subsided and he is able to live a healthy normal life.

Things to Remember:
- The choice of whether or not to take pharmaceuticals is as unique as the individual and one that should not be taken lightly.
- Good nutrition can frequently eliminate the need for them and likely would have prevented their use in the first place
- The brain uses at least 20% of our caloric intake, and doesn’t it make sense that the foods that are causing inflammation and clogging arteries would be doing the same thing in the brain?
- Nate pointed out that when he decided to be all in and declare himself a Whole Foods Plant Based Vegan it made it so much easier to stick to eating this way. I’ll be honest, I have not committed to being 100% myself but I love the power that making that decision once gave him, particularly as he recognized the need to reverse serious health issues.
