Chocolate Hummus
This is one those amazing recipes that is a win all around. Quick and easy? Check. Good for you? Check. Kids like it? Double Check. Inexpensive? Check. Doubles as a dessert and a healthy snack? Check. Simple Ingredients? Check. Super clean? Well I guess you can’t have everything. I always have to give my two-year old a good wipe down but he can’t get enough of this stuff. Delicious with apples, celery, a spoon, your finger . . . I even used it to frost cupcakes not long ago!
Originally from Don’t Waste the Crumbs, I’ve played with it quite a bit to make it both rich and delicious as well as create a date-sweetened version. Don’t wait, make this today!

Ingredients
- 1 can black or white beans, rinsed or 1 1/2 cups cooked beans
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup pitted deglet noor dates approximate 12 dates
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 2 TBSP creamy nut butter, cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds optional but really adds a creamy rich flavor
- 1-2 TBSP water if needed to get mixture moving in blender
- 1-2 TBSP honey or maple syrup optional, to taste

Instructions
- Soak dates in hot water for 30 minutes or longer if possible. Add dates and soaking water with all remaining ingredients to high power blender or food processor and blend well until very smooth, adding additional water if needed. Taste and add additional honey or maple syrup if desired. Tastes even better once chilled in the fridge overnight but it often doesn't last that long!
Recipe Notes
In place of the dates 1/4 cup maple syrup can be used.
